Surface Technologies:ArmorLube & Ceramic Coatings

High Ground Defense is the exclusive source for ArmorLube® surface treatment on the minigun platform.

ArmorLube is a three-dimensional Diamond-Like Carbon technology applied using Hollow Cathode Technology through an affiliated, owner-controlled coating provider. This exclusive relationship prevents other minigun manufacturers from utilizing the ArmorLube process.

ArmorLube provides permanent dry lubrication, with a coefficient of friction ranging from 0.06 to 0.15 and a surface hardness of 7 to 12 GPa. The process can be applied to complex internal geometries and deep bores, reducing dependence on liquid lubricants and the contamination risks they introduce in sand, dust, and other harsh operating environments.

For maritime corrosion protection, HGD also utilizes ceramic coatings where they are best suited. ArmorLube and ceramic coatings are assigned according to the specific component, operating environment, and mission requirement rather than positioned as competing technologies. Coating processes are performed through HGD's qualified and controlled supply chain.

Testing and Acceptance

Every M134HG undergoes live-fire factory acceptance testing prior to shipment. Standard acceptance testing includes a minimum of 100 rounds fired, including one high-pressure proof round for each barrel and its corresponding bolt (six proof rounds total per weapon).

The M134HG design has been validated through more than 700,000 rounds of developmental and qualification testing conducted over three years using ammunition from multiple manufacturers.

Critical components, including bolts and barrels, undergo Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and must meet established acceptance criteria prior to assembly.

Electronic components are qualified to the applicable requirements of MIL-STD-810G/H for environmental conditions including high and low temperature, sand, dust, salt fog, vibration, and shock. Every manufactured component is supported by a Certificate of Conformance (CoC) for material traceability throughout the manufacturing process.

Training and Field Support

High Ground Defense provides operator and maintenance training to support fielding and long-term sustainment of every weapon system.

Standard training programs include a three-day operator course and a five-day maintenance course, covering safe operation, system familiarization, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, inspection, and repair procedures. Training can be tailored to customer requirements, platform configurations, and mission profiles.

Beyond initial instruction, High Ground Defense provides ongoing technical support, spare parts, engineering assistance, and product sustainment throughout the service life of the weapon system.
